The wife of the Vice-President, Mrs Samira Bawumia, has advised teachers of basic schools to inculcate the habit of reading in the children.

She stated that when children can read and understand texts and reading materials they come across, it makes them happy and they develop keen interest in staying in school and make school their second home.

Teachers, it is my humble plea that you let the children in your classes cultivate the habit of reading to have a firm grip of the English language. If they develop their reading skills, it will help them read and understand whatever materials they come across in their educational career and beyond, Mrs Bawumia stressed.

Donation

Mrs. Bawumia gave the advice when she presented boxes of library books to primary schools at Kpong in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region on behalf of her non-governmental organisation, Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Project (SEHP), yesterday.

The beneficiary schools were Kpong Presbyterian, Kpong Methodist, Kpong Islamic, Kpong Roman Catholic and Kpong Evangelical Presbyterian Primary.

Caution

I don’t want the books to be in the library boxes and be kept all the time in the office. Give the children opportunity to always try and read under your supervision. When they read constantly and enjoy it, they will develop the habit of reading and they will grow with it, she emphasised.

She told the children that without formal education they would not be able to fit well into society and encouraged them to be serious with their studies.

The Lower Manya Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Simon Kweku Tetteh, expressed his gratitude to the Second Lady for her support to the educational institutions as a result of her long-standing relationship with the municipality, especially Kpong.

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Director of Education, Madam Rose Yaa Akanyi, expressed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiary schools to their benefactor and appealed to the Second Lady to cover other seven circuits in the municipality with such library books.
